The first is to deepen economic and trade cooperation so as to counter the impact of the world financial crisis. To realize this, the departments concerned from both sides should provide assistance to enterprises involved in bilateral trade and oppose protectionism in trade and investment.

The second is to summarize experience the two countries have gathered together in areas of science, technology, and environmental protection. They should also deepen cooperation on energy-efficiency projects and reduce the effects of pollution.

The third is to increase both personal and cultural exchanges on the platform of the Chinese Cultural Year to be held next year in Italy. It also called for an increase in exchanges between young people from the two countries.

Berlusconi noted that both Italy and China possess ancient culture and civilization. He added that he is pleased to see the smooth development of bilateral relations in recent years.

The Italian Prime Minister said that China plays an important global role and Italy shares many common views with China in the international arena. He expressed his appreciation for China's position of contributing to a harmonious world.

After their meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing of many cooperative agreements.

Earlier on Sunday, President Hu met with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano.
