Afghans looking forward to initial results
Adjust font size:

Workers at Afghanistan's Independent Electoral Commission headquarters are continuing counting ballot papers. Afghans say they're looking forward to the release of initial results of last week's presidential election.

The commission says it will announce the first results later on Tuesday. But fraud allegations have cast doubt over the election. Both President, Hamid Karzai, and leading challenger, Abdullah Abdullah, have accused each other of fraud. The Electoral Complaints Commission says 45 of the complaints are serious enough to affect the election outcome.

Officials say they are confident they can catch 90 percent of any attempted fraud. Abdullah has ruled out a post-election alliance with Karzai if the incumbent president wins.
