Strong quake strikes off Japan

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 hit near Ishigaki Island Sunday, said the Japan Meteorological Agency, which issued a tsunami warning.

The focus of the quake, which occurred at around 3:10 p.m. (0610 GMT), was located some 10 km under the sea off the Ishigaki Island, said the agency.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to properties.
