Singapore leaders extend condolences to Chilean earthquake victims

Singapore leaders on Saturday extended their condolences to the victims of the devastating earthquake that hit Chile early Saturday.

In his letter of condolence to Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, Singapore's President S.R. Nathan said that on behalf of the people of Singapore, he extended his deepest condolences to the quake victims and their families, and wished those injured a speedy recovery from their trauma.

In his letter of condolence to President Michelle Bachelet, Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that he was confident that under President Michelle Bachelet's leadership, Chile would recover from this catastrophe, and Singapore stood ready to join the international effort to assist Chile in this time of need.

A massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake rocked southern Chile early Saturday, and Chilean President Michele Bachelet has declared a " state of catastrophe" in the country.
