Vietnamese PM vows to enhance ties with China

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said at a meeting with visiting Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie in Hanoi on Monday that Vietnam is committed to enhancing friendly ties with China.

Liang, also China's State Councilor, is here for an official and friendly visit to Vietnam and to attend a regional security conference.

Dung said the traditional friendship between Vietnam and China is forged by generations of leaders of the two countries. He said he expected the two parties, two states and two peoples of Vietnam and China to look at bilateral ties from the perspective of broad common interests and continuously advance traditional friendship and bilateral ties.

Dung said Vietnam is ready to strengthen coordination and promote cooperation with China to push forward bilateral military ties and contribute to bilateral relations.

For his part, Liang said China-Vietnam relations have seen continuous development in recent years with fruitful outcomes in politics, economy, military, security, culture and many other sectors.

Liang said this year, being the 60th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties and China-Vietnam Year of Friendship, is an important opportunity for the armed forces of the two countries to develop ties.

He said China would like to work together with Vietnam to further advance comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Liang said China supports the enlargement of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Defense Ministers' Meeting and appreciated Vietnam's efforts in hosting the 1st ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus).

The theme of the ADMM-Plus is "Strategic Cooperation for Peace,Stability and Development in the Region".
