The pandemic Influenza A (H1N1), commonly known as swine flu, has broken out at a school in Zambia' s Ndola city on the Copperbelt province, with eight confirmed cases so far, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Saturday.

The pandemic has broken out at the Fatima Girls Secondary School. Some pupils were taken to a local hospital after being attacked by the H1N1 influenza.

Spokesperson of Zambian Health Ministry Reuben Mbewe said 10 specimens were taken for laboratory investigations, of which eight have tested positive for the virus.

The spokesperson has however assured that all the girls were in a stable condition and that health officials in the district were putting in place measures to ensure that no more cases were recorded.

The signs and symptoms of swine flu include fever, a cough, sneezing, sore throat, body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue.

The health official has since appealed to members of the public with such type of symptoms to seek medical attention.
