7 injured after 5.4-magnitude quake jolts Nagano, Japan

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 on the Richter scale jolted Nagano Prefecture and its vicinity in central Japan on Thursday morning, leaving at least seven people injured, the Japan Meteorological Agency and local media said.

The 8:16 a.m. quake, measured upper 5 on the Japanese seismic scale of 7 in Matsumoto in the prefecture, injured seven people in their 40s to 70s, according to Kyodo News, quoting firefighters in Matsumoto.

No tsunami warning was issued after the quake.

The focus of the quake was underground in central Nagano Prefecture, the weather agency said.

The quake was followed by another one at 8:21 a.m. with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 and measuring 4 on the Japanese seismic scale in Matsumoto and Yamagata, according to the agency.
