6.0M quake hits off Honshu, Japan

An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit off east coast of Honshu, Japan at 1124 GMT on Monday, according to Hong Kong Observatory.

The epicenter was initially determined to be 36.1 degrees north latitude and 141.5 degrees east longitude, about 160 kilometers east-northeast of Tokyo.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake, measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale, was in a depth of 34.50 km.
