Senior Chinese political advisor meets Cook Islands Prime Minister

Zheng Wantong, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), on Monday met with Cook Islands Prime Minister Henry Puna, pledging to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Zheng commented positively about relations between China and the Cook Islands, saying the two countries have maintained a good momentum of development since establishing diplomatic relations. China appreciates the Cook Islands government for its adherence to the one-China policy, Zheng added.

Zheng said China attaches great importance to developing relations with the Cook Islands and is willing to work with the Cook Islands to further enhance communication and cooperation under the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence so as to advance bilateral relations.

Puna said the Cook Islands government will continue to adhere to the one-China policy, strengthen cooperation with China in economy, trade, agriculture, culture and tourism to enhance peoples' welfare in both countries.
