President Hu Jintao left Beijing Thursday afternoon to attend the 19th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' meeting in the U.S. state of Hawaii.

The summit is scheduled for Nov. 12 to 13 under a theme of "seamless regional economy."

Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hailong told a media briefing on Monday that the president will attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, the Leaders' Dialogue with Representatives from APEC Business Advisory Council, and the APEC CEO Summit.

Major topics to be discussed at the summit include pushing forward the Doha Round negotiations, opposing trade protectionism, promoting green growth, and cooperation on developing regulations to govern emerging industries, Assistant Commerce Minister Yu Jianhua said at the media briefing.

Hu was invited by his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama and will also meet with him, according to the Foreign Ministry.
