China will work with the newly-elected New Zealand government to promote bilateral ties, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said on Monday.
Hong made the remarks at a daily press briefing while commenting on the victory of the National Party in New Zealand's general election.
"China congratulates the National Party to have won the election, and wishes to work with the new government to further develop the bilateral ties," Hong said.
Hong said China attaches importance to the China-New Zealand relationship, noting that the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year will be a good opportunity for deepening cooperation.
"The China-New Zealand relationship is currently developing well as the two sides cooperate in most fields. China will enhance dialogue and cooperation with New Zealand and further develop the win-win partnership of all-round cooperation with mutual respect and equal treatment," Hong said.
The National Party won an overwhelming endorsement for a second term in government Saturday, taking 48 percent of the ballots cast in the party vote in New Zealand's general election.
