As its friendly neighbor, China expects Afghanistan to achieve peace and stability at an early date, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Wednesday.

Shocked by the incidents, China mourns the victims and has great sympathy and concern for their family members, Spokesman Hong Lei said at the daily press briefing.

He said that Afghanistan has achieved positive development in its peaceful reconstruction process, but is still faced with severe challenges.

The government of Afghanistan and the international community should make joint efforts to help Afghanistan realize overall stability, he added.

Two suicide bombings occurred on Tuesday in the Afghan cities of Kabul and Mazar-i-Sharif, leaving at least 59 people dead and 154 others injured, according to the local authorities.
