Myanmar President U Thein Sein met with visiting French Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Alain Juppe in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday, official sources said.

Juppe also met speakers of both houses of the parliament U Shwe Mann and U Khin Aung Myint and his Myanmar counterpart U Wunna Maung Lwin in the capital.

No details about the meetings are immediately available.

On Sunday, Juppe had met in Yangon Aung San Suu Kyi, top leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD), and representatives from some political parties, ethnic minorities and civil society.

He expressed welcome over Myanmar's reform endeavors, and promised to lift French sanctions on Myanmar phase by phase in line with its progress in democratic process. Encouraged by Myamar's new development, Juppe is making the first ever visit to the country by a high-ranking French official since 1988.
