China is considering sending diplomatic staffers to visit select countries in the near future and will continue to play a constructive role in promoting the political settlement of the Syrian issue, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Tuesday.

"China has always maintained that all parties in Syria should stop the violence and resolve their issues through dialogue and coordination in order to defuse tension in the region," said spokesman Liu Weimin at a regular news briefing.

Russia and China on Saturday both vetoed an Arab-European draft resolution backing an Arab League plan to promote a regime change in Syria.
