Afghan police kill 3 militants within 24 hours

Afghan police backed by army and the NATO-led forces have killed three anti-government militants and captured 12 others over the past 24 hours during series of operations across the country, Interior Ministry said in a statement released in Kabul on Saturday.

"During the past 24 hours, Afghan National Police, Afghan National Army and the international Coalition Forces launched six joint operations in Nangarhar, Parwan, Helmand, Nimroz, Ghazni and Khost provinces during which three armed insurgents were killed, two wounded and 12 others were arrested," the statement added.

A number of arms and ammunitions including six AK-47 assault rifles with 15 magazines, one rocket launcher were also seized by the police during the operations, it further stated.

However, it did not say if there were any casualties on the security forces. Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO-led forces have yet to make comment.
