China's position towards assistance to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is consistent, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Weimin said on Thursday.

Liu made the remarks at a regular press release, answering a question concerning China's food aid to the DPRK.

China has always been committed to providing assistance to the DPRK to the best of its ability, he added.

"China welcomes the recent agreement on food aid between the U.S. and the DPRK, and hopes the international community will continuously provide assistance to the DPRK," Liu said.

Assistance to the DPRK is beneficial both to the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula, and to the development of DPRK, he added.
