The Malawi government Saturday decided to put Vice President Joyce Banda in charge of all affairs in the southern African country following official announcement of President Mutharika's death.

However, according to sources close to the meeting, Banda wasn't appointed acting president and was just given power to control everything in the period.

At the meeting, Banda called for 10 days of national mourning and orders all flags to fly half mast.
