Assistant Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu will attend an upcoming meeting between Iran, the EU and the six world powers of Russia, China, the U.S., Britain, France and Germany in Baghdad on May 23.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei made the announcement on Monday.

He said China believes that engaging in dialogue is the only appropriate and effective approach in solving disputes regarding Iran's nuclear program.

"Dialogue and cooperation regarding Iran's nuclear issue are now seeing a positive trend," Hong said, adding that China hopes all sides will continue to discuss the issue sincerely and address any divergences appropriately.

Hong said China expects the upcoming meeting to yield positive results, maintain the dialogue and negotiation process and aid in the search for a comprehensive, long-term and appropriate solution.

"China is willing to work with all sides and make constructive efforts to promote a solution to Iran's nuclear issue through diplomatic means," Hong said.
