Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai said Monday that China and the Unites States both hope to establish sound interaction in the Asia-Pacific region.
Cui made the remarks at a press briefing in Beijing on the 7th summit of the Group of 20 (G20) scheduled to be held in Los Cabos, Mexico from June 18-19.
Cui said China and the United States are communicating over the arrangement of the meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and U.S. President Barack Obama during the G20 summit.
"It will be the 12th meeting between the two leaders since Obama became the U.S. president," said Cui.
China and the United States have been discussing how to forge a new type of relationship between major powers, and their interaction in the Asia-Pacific region is an important part of the relationship, he said.
"We hope that the U.S. will respect China's interests and concerns in the region," he said, adding that the two sides could realize sound interaction and coordination on the basis of mutual respect.
"We understand U.S. interests and concerns in the Asia-Pacific region and hope that the U.S. will play a constructive role in the region," he said, adding that the South China Sea issue is not a problem between the two countries.
On the trade imbalance between the two countries, Cui said the U.S. economic troubles are not caused by China, and the United States has the responsibility to resolve its own problems.
He urged the world's largest economy to think about how its macro-economic policies may affect other economies of the world, including China.
Cui said the economic and trade problems between the two countries should not be multi-lateralized and politicized, especially in the U.S. election year.
China and the United States have established many mechanisms to properly cope with contradictions and frictions in the development of their economic and trade relations, he said, citing the fourth round of China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue (SED) as an example.
He called on the two countries to improve communication and coordination at the G20 summit, and work with the international community to tackle major global emergencies.
In response to a question on whether China and Russia will join hands to counterbalance the U.S. influence, Cui said the China-Russia strategic partnership is characterized by non-alliance and non-confrontation, and not targeting any third parties.
Both China and Russia are willing to establish sound and normal relations with other nations, including the United States, Cui said, saying there is no reason to interfere in the healthy relations between China and Russia.
