China on Tuesday called on parties concerned to show restraint as crossfire along the border area of Syria and Turkey continues.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said at a daily press briefing that China has paid great attention to the current situation in Syria and its impact on neighboring countries.

"We call on parties concerned to mutually respect one another's sovereignty and territorial integrity, exercise restraint and refrain from taking any action that may escalate the tension," said Hong.

Turkey and Syria on Monday traded fresh artillery fire for the sixth consecutive day as tensions along the two countries' border area mounted to a risky escalation of conflict in the region.
