The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Wednesday sent a fax to propose anniversary activities with the Republic of Korea together to commemorate the 13th anniversary of the landmark joint declaration with ROK, Yonhap News Agency cited Thursday a civic organization as reporting.

DPRK said the only way to recover the relationship between inter-Korea and open a new situation for autonomous reunification is to implement the historic June 15th declaration and suggested Mount Kumgang or Kaesong as a place to hold a joins celebration, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The declaration, adopted between then-ROK's president Kim Dae-jung and top DPRK leader Kim Jong-il in June 2000, promoted inter-Korean economic cooperation and exchanges in other fields.

An official of ROK's Unification Ministry said the government would consider the proposal, according to Yonhap News Agency.

Tensions have been running high on the Korean Peninsula since the DPRK conducted its third nuclear test on Feb 12. Pyongyang shut down the inter-Korean industrial complex in early April in protest of US-ROK's military drills and pulled out 53,000 DPRK workers. ROK also withdrew its workers starting on April 26 after Pyongyang rejected Seoul's proposal for working- level talks.
