Three suspected terrorists were killed in a raid by combined team of security operatives in Guri local government area of northwest Nigeria's Jigawa State on Tuesday, according to a statement by the military authorities.

The statement made available to Xinhua on Wednesday said a cache of arms and ammunition were also recovered, following the raid carried out by the security operatives in Abunabu Village of the local government, where the suspects resided.

"You may recall that the Joint Task Force (JTF) had earlier warned following the declaration of a state of emergency in some parts of the northeast region of the country, that some fleeing elements of the terrorist network out of the region, following ongoing military action against them, will be seeking refuge in other parts of the country, especially areas with little security presence," the statement said, assuring residents that the JTF will not rest on its oars in ensuring their safety.

Four AK 47 rifles, five magazines and 164 rounds rounds of 7.62 specially made AK 47 rifles were among the arms and ammunition recovered by the military during the raid, according to the statement.

The military authorities said to further forestall any attempts by terrorists to hibernate in other local government areas, security operatives have increased the number of personnel in towns in addition to increasing the number of patrols, especially in identified flash points.

Last week Thursday, a prime suspect was killed in a similar raid when security operatives engaged Boko Haram insurgents in a fierce gun battle at their hideout in another northwestern state of Sokoto in Nigeria.
