Chinese Special Envoy to Middle East Wu Sike said here Wednesday that China has followed with close attention to the Syrian humanitarian situation and has made active efforts to ease the situation.

Wu made the remark at the second High-level International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria held in Kuwait, where he noted since the outbreak of the unrest of Syria in March 2011, the Chinese government has provided the Syrian refugees and the displaced persons several batches of humanitarian aid.

He further said China will continue to provide support to the extent of its capacity to the Syrian people, including the refugees, in line with the situation and real needs.

In an interview with Xinhua, Wu stressed that humanitarian assistance should not hamper the process of political settlement of the Syrian issue; rather, only a comprehensive and thorough political solution to the Syrian conflict can relieve the humanitarian crisis on the ground.

He urged all parties to the Syrian issue to seize the current opportunity to promote a political solution to it, noting the endeavor requires the joint efforts of the international community and that China will continue to play its role in the process.

leaders and representatives from 69 countries and regions participated in the Syria donors conference, which aims to raise about 6.5 billion U.S. dollars in aid for the Syrian refugees.
