When Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif last July, he emphasized that strengthening bilateral strategic cooperative partnership was a priority in China's diplomatic strategy for neighboring countries. "Hence, we would like to pass on the heritage of traditional friendship, enhance the level of pragmatic cooperation, promote the integration of complementary advantages and benefits, and achieve common development," he said.

"It is precisely because of the good relations between the our countries that ICBC, as the world's largest commercial bank in terms of market capitalization, chose the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries to establish a branch in Pakistan, so as to better benefit the two peoples from the financial perspective and promote bilateral economic and trade cooperation," Jiang added.

At present, ICBC has branch offices in Karachi and Islamabad, and it will open a branch office in Lahore soon. "Since the launch of our Pakistani operation, we have received strong support from the Pakistani government and financial community, and have made great progress. This makes us more confident to achieve greater success for the two countries' political, diplomatic, economic and trade cooperation." He added.

Talking about the Sino-Pakistan economic corridor, Jiang said that it was undoubtedly a major event for the benefit of both peoples. As the only Chinese commercial bank in Pakistan, ICBC and Pakistani Ministry of Water and Energy jointly established a working group to provide financial support for power and energy projects. ICBC also actively participates in the construction of Gwadar Port, and actively promotes the establishment of industrial parks in Pakistan.
