The son of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga was found dead in his residence in Nairobi on early Sunday, police authorities said.
Authorities have not established the cause of the death of Fidel Odinga, 41, who is seen as a potential political successor to his father.
Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Director Ndegwa Muhoro said the prominent businessman was found dead by his wife at his Karen home early Sunday, having arrived home late at around 1:00 a. m. local time.
"We have not established the cause of his death, but we have launched investigations," Muhoro said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta led the nation in sending messages of condolence to former Odinga and his family following the death of their son.
In his message, Kenyatta said it was with a deep sense of loss, sorrow and shock that he learnt of the death of the former Prime Minister's son. He said the passing of Fidel has robbed the country of a promising young man whose contribution to nation building will be missed by all.
"This is a big loss not only to you and your family but the entire country," Kenyatta said. "On behalf of my family, the Government and the people of Kenya, and on my own behalf, please accept our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences."
