Chinese Foreign Ministry voiced "serious concern" on Thursday over media reports on Indonesia's blowing up of Chinese fishing boats, urging Indonesia to "make clarification".

Spokesperson Hong Lei told a routine press briefing that China is verifying the situation.

Media reported 41 empty fishing boats suspected of illegal fishing, including a large Chinese ship seized in 2009, were blown up by Indonesia on Wednesday .

Fishery cooperation is an important component of China-Indonesia mutual-beneficial cooperation, Hong said, stressing China has always urged Indonesia to promote bilateral cooperation with a constructive attitude and earnestly safeguard Chinese enterprises' legitimate rights.
