Hong Kong Bauhinia Magazine:
Solidarity and cooperation among major powers played an irreplaceable role in winning the World Anti-Fascist War, establishing the post-war international order, and maintaining world peace and stability. May I ask how China evaluates its current relationships with Russia, the United States, and Europe, as well as its stance on further advancing relations between major powers? Thank you.
Ma Zhaoxu:
As President Xi Jinping noted, major-country relations are crucial for global strategic stability, and major countries bear a special responsibility. We work to foster major-country dynamics characterized by peaceful coexistence, overall stability and balanced development.
China-Russia relations represent the most stable, mature and strategically significant major-country relationship in today's volatile and changing world. Eight decades ago, the Chinese and Russian peoples made tremendous sacrifices and contributed significantly to the establishment of the post-war international order. Both sides will uphold a correct historical perspective on WWII, safeguard the fruits of the victory in the war, advance the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era, and make greater contributions to the cause of human progress.
Since the beginning of this year, President Xi Jinping has had two phone calls and multiple communications with U.S. President Donald Trump, steering and setting the direction for the giant ship of China-U.S. relations. President Xi Jinping pointed out that China and the United States share broad common interests and vast areas for cooperation. They can become partners and friends that deliver mutual success and worldwide benefits. We are willing to pursue mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation with the United States, while also firmly safeguarding China's national sovereignty, security and development interests. Attempts to pressure or coerce China in any form are destined to fail. Attempts to contain China's development and progress and obstruct the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation will not succeed. We are willing to work with the U.S. side to implement the important consensus reached by the two presidents, maintain communication, manage differences, expand cooperation and continue exploring the right way for the two countries to coexist in the new era.
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union. When meeting with EU leaders, President Xi Jinping offered a profound summary of the key lessons from 50 years of China-EU relations, namely: respecting each other, seeking commonality while preserving differences, upholding openness and cooperation, and pursuing mutual benefit. China is willing to deepen strategic communication with the EU, enhance understanding and mutual trust, consolidate the partnership, expand openness to each other, appropriately manage frictions and differences, and work to advance China-EU relations. Thank you.
