Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, along with Chinese actress and project ambassador Li Bingbing, attended the first anniversary of the Million Forest campaign in Shanghai on Tuesday (July 27), QQ.com reports.

The project is organized by the Climate Group, China Green Foundation and United Nations Environment Programme. The two celebrities also presented awards for the outstanding partners of the Million Forest campaign to three companies: Shenzhen Development Bank, China UnionPay and Ping An.

The campaign aims to plant millions of sea buckthorn trees in northwest China to help improve the ecological environment and benefit the region and local people environmentally and economically.

"Since last August, the influence of the Million Forest campaign has been increasing rapidly. We have completed the original goal of planting one million sea buckthorn trees in one year instead of two years," said Wu Changhua from the Climate Group.

Meanwhile, the project of Cooldriver was also set up during the activity, which advocates one million Chinese drivers to reduce carbon emissions through car sharing and Car-free Days.
