Chinese actor/director Jiang Wen and French superstar Jean Reno topped the bill of star guests at the opening ceremony of the first Chinese Film Festival in France at the Cinema Gaumont in Paris on the evening of Jan. 25.
The curtain-raiser was a screening of the historical film Bodyguards and Assassins with the film’s stars Wang Xueqi and Zhou Yun present as honored guests.
The festival will run from Jan. 26 to Feb. 8, 2011 in Paris, Lyons, Toulouse and Versailles. The aim is to promote a better understanding of Chinese movies among French cinemagoers, and 12 influential films of different genres, including Tangshan Earthquake, Confucius and The Message, will be showcased.
The Chinese delegation will also hold discussions with the French National Film Center and the French Film Union on the future of the movie market in the two countries, cooperation on film projects, and the implications of new technology such as 3D.
The Festival is jointly sponsored by China’s State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and the Chinese Culture Center in Paris.
