With a 10 million yuan investment, the new Film 7 project was announced Saturday at the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF). Organized by the China Film Group (CFG), Sohu and Nokia, the new media project sees 7 A-list actors, including Liu Ye, Huang Lei and Wu Xiubo, making their own short films.

The films will be shot in digital and broadcast on new media platform such as the Internet and mobile phone.

"The project is the most important one in the new media division for CFG. It is also the biggest filmmaking investment yet in Chinese new media, said Zhao Haicheng, distributing manager of China Film Group at SIFF.

"New media has the most active users in China and we are confident the project will mark the age that the new media blockbuster is coming."

Some actors, such as Huang Lei, have directed TV shows before, while for those like Liu Ye, it is the first time behind the camera. The productions will be assisted by talents and professionals from the CFG.

"I always wanted to make my own film. Since this is the age of new media, I even wrote on my Weibo page, asking for ideas from fans a long time ago," laughed Liu at Saturday's press conference.

"I wanted my film to be completely different," Wu noted. "The dream can come true, since with the new media platform, viewers are super-cool and open-minded."
