The prestigious American director Joel Cohen paid a visit to Chinese director Lu Chuan's studio last weekend in Beijing, according to a report from Mtime.com.

The two directors were involved in in-depth dialogue at a film directors' panel discussion during the First US-China Forum on the Arts and Culture on November 17, 2011.

Joel Cohen told media after the discussion that Lu had impressed him greatly with his 2008 epic war movie "City of Life and Death" that had been released in America in May of this year. "I was surprised by the way he combined story-telling and movie-making. He has proved to me that Chinese film-makers are becoming more and more influential than ever before," he said.

Cohen's admiration of Lu's work led to his visit to Lu's studio, following their first meeting on November 17.

Lu Chuan is currently engaged in the post-production stages of his latest costume movie "The Last Supper". He was very excited to welcome a long-time icon into his studio and allowed him to view a 20-minute rough cut of his new movie during the visit.

Before he left the studio, Cohen told Lu, "We have lots in common when we make movies. I knew very few Asian directors before. This meeting means a lot to me". Cohen also spoke highly of Lu's new project, saying "The movie has the potential and quality to perform well in the American film market."
