A Master of Painting, A Man of a Peace

——An appreciation of painter Li Xiaozheng and his works

The spirit of nature and the temperament of humanity washed away the trace of rigid craftsmanship. A man of few words, his inner world was enriched by his reticence and life experience. A boy with an artist dream, he traveled all over China, easel on his back, footprints left along the arduous journey, which laid a solid foundation of realistic painting materials essential for a painter. Growing into a young man, he went to a foreign country on his own in the pursuit of Western drawing techniques and another realm of life. All the pains taken and endured were purely to explore the true spirit of Western art. During that period, he also created many works that were collected by the local people. Now stepping into the middle age, he established Songzhuang Roundness Art Community to immerse himself wholeheartedly into the world of creation. With his sophisticated skills, he has created many supreme oil paintings. Life is his inspiration. The immaculate composition and tranquil mood receive the amazement and applause of many painting masters and audiences. His works are highly appreciated and are well worth collecting. Many of his creations have been collected by painting lovers home and abroad.

This is our well-known oil painter- Li Xiaozheng.

Paintings with bold brush strokes are hard to achieve form while those using refined brush strokes are difficult to render spirit. Those are the two factors challenging for painters to command and master. However, Xiaozheng perfectly infuse form with spirit. Western realism and Chinese connotation can be traced in his paintings, which permeate the charm of oriental philosophy. His still life paintings seem to refract a shade of light in the solitary life, like the music of Franz Liszt, tenderly moving forward and then backward, ending with a peaceful tone, lingering for a long time. His figure paintings, especially body are bright and poetic, full of movement and vitality. The morning light sets of the dreamy silhouette of the woman leaning by the window. The women strolling in the studio is a musical note dancing in the air. His works, like the classic and romantic sonata of Johannes Brahms, are beams of primitive light, singing fervently in everyday life. His landscape paintings flow with freshness, conveying the beauty of the nature in the tranquil yet vibrant scene. Spring comes again and brings back the brilliant blossom and the gurgling streams, like the pastoral symphony of Beethoven, cozy and pristine, beaming out a warm brightness in the far-reaching tranquility. The heart is thus intrigued by a strong emotion and affection for the mysterious nature, infected and thrilled by the power of art.

Ours is a hectic era. We are lucky to have a painter like him always painting, quietly and peacefully, presenting us with the beauty of western and eastern world, making us mesmerized and enlightened by his vivid works with both spirit and form. He and his works touch our heart, our emotion and the love in our life, and at the same time, demonstrate the very nature of art, of life and of each and every creature in the nature……
