Chinese-American actor Vanness Wu, Hong Kong actor Jaycee Fong, son of Jackie Chan, and four others are to join the cast of director Chen Kaige's new film, "Daoshi Xia Shan."

Wu first came to prominence in the acting world in 2001, starring in the hit Taiwan drama series, "Meteor Garden." After that, he's been in a slew of Chinese movies and caught the eye of Chen Kaige. The director said that Wu's ability to express both villainy and charm on screen is what made him want to seek the actor for this new film.

Last month, it was announced that Chinese actor Wang Baoqiang will play the lead in "Daoshi Xia Shan." The film is a 3D martial arts feature set during the Republic of China, from 1912 to 1949. The movie follows a Taoist priest who returned to society after a life of seclusion in the mountains proved to be lonely and boring. However, a series of odd events leads him on a path to mastering the essence of martial arts.

Chen Kaige's films are known for their visual flair and epic storytelling. His 1993 film, "Farewell My Concubine," was winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival that year.
