The Chinese film industry has paid tributes to oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams, who was found dead on Monday.

Williams died from an apparent suicide at his home in Northern California, Marin County Sheriff's Office said. He was 63. According to the sheriff's office, the death is suspected to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but the cause of death is still under investigation.

"We lost you, dear you and poor you," actress Yao Chen wrote on her micro-blog, "You are one of the greatest comedy actors in a century."

Yao went on to quote the poem by Henry David Thoreau to pay her tribute, "I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately / I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life / To put to rout all that was not life / And not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." Williams read the poem during the film "Dead Poets Society," which was seen as an everlasting moment.

Chinese audiences are familiar with Williams' masterpieces, especially "Jumanji," "Dead Poets Society," "Good Will Hunting" and the more recent "Night at the Museum" movie series. "Dead Poets Society" was a classic movie for many Chinese teachers.

Hong Kong director Pang Ho-Cheung wrote, "Robin Williams' consummate performance made me understand in my young age that comedy is an alternative expression of tragedy. His films always are inspiring and healing. I watched his films repeatedly and those films help me through a lot of depressive time. "

"I cried when I heard of the news," Taiwan actress Alyssa Chia said, "Such a brilliant performing artist chose to end his own life. Thank you for your movies that brought us much joy and many beautiful memories. R.I.P. Robin."
