Li Qiufang, a member of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), said during an online press conference on its website that the television and film industry is "no pure land" and contains many "risks of corruption".
Li is also head of the CCDI disciplinary inspection group stationed in the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.
The "hidden rules" in the industries will be tackled in the deepening investigation, the Beijing Times reported, listing five areas for close scrutiny.
1. Purchase and marketing of TV series and films
In recent years, the purchase and marketing of TV series and films is an aspect where corrupt activities such as bribery have occurred. The number of productions is more than TV and cinema networks can handle, so production companies and studios make every effort to please the purchasers/broadcasters and meet their various "demands and needs"
An insider with a performing agency revealed to the newspaper that some State-owned production companies fake high production costs and then siphon off the money. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection report in 2014 mentioned a censor in the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television who helped many TV series gain approval and got more than 300,000 yuan (US$47,970) in bribes.
