The yearly event sees companies from all over the world come to London to negotiate the sale of rights and materials to different countries, as well as acting as a place to broker deals for publishers, editors, writers, and even technology companies. The event also sees numerous influential people of the publishing world get the message out about their best products and talents.

The main country to be showcased this year will be Mexico. "The London Book Fair Market Initiative" has been in practice since 2004 and helps "put the spotlight on publishing trade links with the country or region that is showcased" with an aim to create trade links between the focus market and the rest of the world.

This year will also see talented international writers such as London-based Chinese Xiaolu Guo, Scotland's Ali Smith, and Mexico's Carmen Boullosa take to the PEN Literary Salon stage to talk about what their writing and their books mean to them, and to publicize new or recent works.

Among the stalls for individual countries and companies from all areas of publishing, there will also be talks held on trade, international publishing rights, and translation which will help to give awareness to business people from all areas and countries, but also create a forum in which ideas are shared.

Another thing to watch out for at this year's London Book Fairs -- and others throughout the world -- is the changes in technology and the ever changing landscape of the publishing world.

With the increasing amount of books sold in electronic format, publishers and tech-savvy people alike will be looking at the future of reading in its paper format and at the new reading platforms which are being developed.
