'Star Wars: Force Awakens' characters unveiled

The unofficial "Stars Wars" holiday, May the fourth, was celebrated with the release of a teaser for the latest movie "The Force Awakens."

US magazine Vanity Fair unveiled the first images from episode VII, which included Adam Driver's villainous Kylo Ren wielding a crossbar lightsaber.

Driver's character is described as commanding two snowtroopers loyal to the evil First Order on the frozen plains of their secret base.

Another image saw Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o wearing motion capture tracking dots to turn her into Maz Kanata, a CGI creation who is described as a pirate.

"Star Wars" mainstay Peter Mayhew who plays Chewbacca, also revealed the identity of Gwendoline Christie's character via Twitter.

The "Game of Thrones" actress will play Captain Phasma, described as a First Order officer.
