The original trilogy of "Star Wars" films was screened in a Shanghai theater on Sunday. The screening was the first time that the original trilogy -- "Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope," "Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" and "Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi" -- have been shown in China.

Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm also screened footage from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the newest installment in the franchise. Audiences were also shown a clip of an interview with the film’s director, J. J. Abrams. Actors dressed as Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers made an appearance at the theater to set the scene, causing a sensation among the film fans gathered to await the screening.

The "Star Wars" prequel trilogy will also be screened at the festival, which runs through June 21, 2015.

"The Force Awakens" will be released in North America on December 18, 2015.
