The war epic "The Great Campaign with One Hundred Regiments," directed by Ning Haiqiang and Zhang Yuzhong, debut in Chinese theaters on Aug. 28, with a cast led by Tang Guoqiang, Wang Wufu, and Wu Yue and the script was written by Dong Zhe, who previously wrote the Chinese revolutionary blockbusters "The Founding of a Republic" and "The Founding of a Party."

The film was to mark the 70th anniversary of the victory in Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) and recreates the largest and longest battle fought by the Eighth Route Army in north China when the counter-Japanese war entered a stalemate in August 1940.

On the opening day, the film grossed 45.3 million yuan and beat Hollywood blockbuster "Terminator Genisys" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger to become the champion of the box office on that day. By Monday, it had grossed 192 million yuan.
