Ridely Scott, Matt Damon and Brie Larson are just a few of the big names honored at the National Board of Review Gala in New York.

Ridley Scott grabbed the award for Best Director for 'The Martian', and his star Matt Damon earned the title of best actor.

The world-renowned director has highly praised Damon's acting performance while being interviewed at the black carpet.

"He is one of the few actors in the United States that can actually do everything. He can do anything. He can go from Ripley to comedy to Bourne. And he's also a great comedic guy. He has a great sense of humor that people aren't that aware of and so he's just totally capable."

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old actress Brie Larson has been pointed the Best Actress for her performance in 'Room'.

She expressed her excitement on knowing crowned the award at the ceremony.

"Well that's kind of the nice thing about it. There's not that huge wait period. It just sort of ripped off like a band aid, and it's such an honor. I'm excited to be here, and I'm excited to toast all of the other winners. I keep wanting to say nominees, but it's done."

The NBR has Quentin Tarantino as the Best Director, and picked 'Mad Max: Fury Road' as the Best Picture of the year.

Founded in 1909, the National Board of Review aims to recognize excellence in motion pictures.
