Instant fame

The reason behind the group's overnight fame is still unclear. However, it may have something to do with several verified accounts with large fan bases that retweeted the girls' posts.

From Feb. 11, several big accounts on Weibo posted pictures of the girls with ridiculed tweets and this quickly went viral online.

Analysts say that the combination of ridicule, interaction with the large fan base of TFBOYS, as well as photo-editing spree by Weibo users created much publicity and may account for the runaway success of its marketing "hype."

On the second day of Sunshine's instant fame, another girls group called "Love-wings" came into the spotlight, ambitious to join the ranks of China's home-grown idol groups. But again, this seems to be nothing but hype.
