DMG Entertainment is working with James Cameron and his production company LightStrom Entertainment to use the most advanced 3D conversion technologies to "make the biggest and best 3D conversion film ever."

The exact release date has not been set.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of "Terminator 2," but since the system for screening imported films hadn't been set up when the T2 was released in 1991, the original film never had a chance to have a theatrical release in China. However, many movie fans watched it on VHS and DVD and it has become a favorite movie for multiple generations.

"I was thrilled to learn how popular 'T2' is in China. And I wanna thank the Chinese fans for their support, which is all the more meaningful considering 'T2' was never released in cinema there. And that's why I'm excited about working with DMG to bring 'T2' into Chinese cinemas for the very first time," Cameron said in a video.

The 3D rerelease will be the first theatrical release for the film in China. It was also announced that Arnold Schwarzenegger, the film's lead actor, will be in China to promote the rerelease. It is also possible that James Cameron will come to China for promotion if he doesn't have scheduling conflicts.

Andy Anderson, a top executive at DMG Entertainment also said they have developed a massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) and a virtual reality game for "Terminator 2: Judgment Day."

The film, which caused a lot of buzz around the world for its thrilling action scenes and groundbreaking visual effects when it was debuted on July 3, 1991, made US$519 million at box offices worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of the year. It also won four Academy Awards the following year.

There have been several 3D rerelease miracles in the Chinese film market before, such as James Cameron's 3D rerelease of "Titanic" (2012), which grossed a stunning US$145 million in China, the highest among all markets, including the American market. Another notable example was the 3D rerelease of "Jurassic Park" (2013), which grossed US$55.89 million in China.
