Lawyer Guo Yuanyao said it would be very hard for Li and his team to obtain actual evidence of Guo's sexual harassment, which should include medical records, audio or video tapes. Guo had a better chance to win unless Li could provide solid evidence to back his claim.

However, another lawyer, Zhu Xiaolei, told Beijing News that China's amended criminal law in effect since Nov. 1, 2015 had changed the "forcibly molested a woman" into "forcibly molested others" in the relevant article of the law, which meant the scope of the crime has been enlarged and molestation of males was also included.

Nevertheless, the general opinion in legal circles is that Li has another problem: His claim may fall outside the deadline of five years for filing a lawsuit from the most recent alleged molestation.

Guo, the "Tiny Times" writer and film director, has always courted controversy and ridicule due to his lavish life style, rumors of homosexuality, lack of film directing skill, and even his physical height. But the previous biggest blemish was when he lost a lawsuit filed by an author who accused him of plagiarism and he was ordered to pay 200,000 yuan (US$32,258) in compensation.

He paid the sum, but refused to publicly apologize, although many complained the punishment was too light and set a bad precedent. "When someone has plagiarized to earn millions and then only is ordered to pay back 200,000 yuan, he will continue to plagiarize," one online user wrote.
