A Hong Kong hospital reported two flu-related death cases, the Hong Kong Hospital Authority (HA) said on Tuesday.
According to the hospital, a 73-year-old male patient, infected with flu A/H1N1, and a 72-year-old male patient, infected with influenza A, died due to continued deterioration of clinical condition.
The cases following the death of a 63-year-old female patient on Monday, will probably bring Hong Kong's total flu-related death toll to 20 this year.
In response to the recent influenza situation in Hong Kong, the Hospital Authority, in close collaboration with the Center for Health Protection, has activated the enhanced monitoring system for severe influenza patients staying in the intensive care units of public hospitals.
As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, one new case of flu A/H1N1 involving a 56-day baby boy had been confirmed over the past 24 hours. The infant is in stable condition, according to the Hospital Authority.
To date, 23 influenza patients are still staying in the intensive care units of public hospitals in Hong Kong, including the newly confirmed case.
