Flood Death Toll Reaches 100 in Yunnan

The death toll from flooding and mudslides this year in southwest China's Yunnan Province has reached 100, said the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters Thursday.

The total includes 12 who were killed over the past two days by landslide and mudflow in the Yingjiang County of the Dai-Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture of Dehong.

The recent disaster has left 48 others missing, and four more seriously injured, with direct economic losses hitting 157 million yuan (US$18.9 million).

By July 20, 88 people had been killed in similar calamities since the start of the flood season, and five cities had been inundated, causing economic losses of 2.48 billion yuan (US$298 million).
