At Least 11 Killed in Bus Mishap in Shanxi

Eleven people were killed and 12 others injured when an Iveco minibus ran off road into a ditch and hit on a big rock in north China's Shanxi Province Saturday.

The injured were rushed to hospital.

Sun Baoping, a police officer at the scene, said that based on an initial investigation result, the driver or the malfunction of the minibus might be held responsible for the accident.

Further investigation is underway.

The accident happened at the road section linking Xinzhou City to Wutai Mountain in the mountainous province.

The Iveco was found to belong to the Taiyuan Baotongda Passenger Transportation Company registered in the provincial capital of Taiyuan. The company was held on the record in three bus accidents which claimed eight lives since last September, the police said.
