China, Mongolia Ink Education Cooperation Pact

Ten Mongolian orphans will receive three years of education in Erenhot, a city in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, beginning September 1 this year. The opportunity is a result of a new Sino-Mongolian agreement on education cooperation.

The agreement was signed between the Mongolian National Authority for Children (NAC) and the Erenhot municipal government earlier this week. The agreement sets the stage for future exchanges between China and Mongolia.

"It is the beginning of cooperation between Mongolia and China on juvenile education, which will benefit the education and culture of Mongolia," said NAC head, Togtokhnyam, who is heading a Mongolian delegation on a visit to Erenhot. Many Mongolian people use only a single name.

Togtokhnyam said that under the agreement, Mongolia will send students to China each year until 2008.

Every summer vacation, Ulan Bator in Mongolia and Erenhot in Inner Mongolia will organize 30 to 50 children for an exchange visit.

The NAC was established in 1925 and became an implementing agency of the government of Mongolia in 2001.
