GM Urged to Expand Cooperation with Chinese Firms

Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan said Tuesday that he hoped General Motors of the United States would continuously expand fields of cooperation with the automobile industry of China.

Zeng made the remark in a meeting with visiting Rick Wagoner, GM chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) in Zhongnanhai, the headquarters of the Chinese government.

Zeng said the Chinese government encourages domestic automobile enterprises to enhance cooperation with large foreign companies, to research and develop new fuels, energy sources and the fuel-cell

Zeng said he wished that General Motors would develop and produce cheaper and better cars to meet the needs of Chinese consumers.

Wagoner said General Motors is fully confident in the healthy development of China's automobile industry, noting that GM will further expand investment in China and strive to raise the two sides' cooperation.
