Snow in northeast China hampers traffic and flights
Adjust font size:

It was the heaviest snowfall in Liaoning Province to date. Taoxian International Airport in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province, closed for 5 hours due to snow but reopened at 18:30 on the same day; air flights are being rescheduled.

Five highways in Shenyang were closed to traffic, including highways from Shenyang to Harbin, Shenyang to Zhangwu, Shenyang to Nanzamu, Shenyang to Dandong and the highway around Shenyang City. Some sections and toll stations of the highways from Shenyang to Dalian and Shenyang to Shanhaiguan were shut down. Long-distance buses were also delayed or cancelled in the city. Only Shenyang Railway Bureau has reported that railway services are in good running order.

The first heavy snow also hit most areas of Jilin Province with low temperature in some areas reaching -15℃ and the mercury dipping down to -18℃ in others. Longjia International Airport in Changchun, the capital city of Jilin Province, was closed. All the highways in the province were also shut down.

The snow hit some areas in Heilongjiang Province at noon on November 19. Taiping International Airport in Harbin, the capital city, closed temporarily but resumed operations at 19:00 the same day. The closure affected more than 40 air flights. The highway from Harbin to Shuangcheng and the highway around the Harbin city remained closed.
