2 killed, 19 injured in HK bus collision
Adjust font size:

Two people were killed and 19 others injured after two double-decker buses collided at a road intersection in Hong Kong overnight, police said.

The two buses, one eastbound driven by a 60-year-old man and the other southbound by a 29-year-old, collided in Tseung Kwan O on the Kowloon peninsula at 11:50 p.m. Friday, the police said in a statement early Saturday, adding that both drivers were injured.

Two women passengers were subsequently pronounced dead just after midnight.

Of the injured, a woman remained critically ill at a local hospital and a man and a four-year-old girl were in serious condition, the local RTHK radio reported.

A woman and a man, currently in hospital, were in stable condition, while 12 others were hospitalized, treated and discharged by Saturday morning, it added.

The police said a special investigation team was investigating the accident.

Densely populated Hong Kong has one of the world's most developed and efficient public transport system, and buses, of which most are high double-decker ones, usually travel fast but orderly.
